There is at least 1000 kg/ha gap in wheat productivity relative to achievable yield. Though more than the national average the productivity of sorghum is less than 50% of the achievable yield. Only 40% and 60% of the achievable yield is obtained by chickpea (gram) and pigeonpea (arahar) farmers respectively. Though soybean productivity is higher than the national average the productivity gap relative to achievable yield is nearly 500 kg/ha. Similarly, the productivity of cotton and sugarcane fall short of achievable yield by 227 kg/ha and 49 MT/ha respectively. शेतात जिवाणूंची संख्या वाढणे हा या शेतीचा गाभा आहे. समाजाचे आरोग्य सुदृढ राहण्यासाठी विषमुक्त अन्नाचे महत्त्व समाजाला पटवून द्यावे लागणार आहे. यासाठी महिला व युवकांमध्ये जागृती गरजेची आहे. रासायनिक शेतीमध्ये जेवढे उत्पादन मिळते, तेवढेच प्रसंगी त्यापेक्षाही जास्त उत्पादन मिळविण्याची क्षमता सेंद्रियमध्ये आहे. त्यासाठी विविध तंत्राचा अवलंब केला पाहिजे. सेंद्रिय शेतीत जैविक कीडनियंत्रणासाठी मिश्रपीक पद्धती वापरावी. मिश्रपीक पद्धतीत एखाद्या पिकाचे नुकसान झाले तर दुसऱ्या पिकातून फायदा मिळतो. सेंद्रिय शेतीमाल विक्रीत सेंद्रियच्या नावाखाली रासायनिक मालाची विक्री होऊन ग्राहकांची फसवणूक होऊ शकते. यासाठी शासन किंवा शासन अधिस्वीकृत यंत्रणांकडून प्रमाणीकरण करून घ्यावे.

जैविक शेतीतून विकासाकडे कसे जायचे? शेतीचा खर्च कमी करून उत्पादन कसे वाढवायचे? जमीन कशी वाचवायची? बियाणे, खते कोणती वापरायची? सध्या कुठले शेती तंत्राद्यान चालू आहे? तालुका, जिल्हा बाजारात मागणी कोणत्या पिकाला आहे? भारताची निर्यात कोणकोणत्या मालाची आहे? शेतकऱ्यांना त्यांच्या वर्षभरातील पिकाला योग्य तो मोबदला मिळावा यासाठी पिक नियोजन आवश्यक आहे. एकाच वेळी मोठ्या भूभागात सर्व शेतकऱ्यांनी एकच पिक घेतले तर बाजारभाव नक्कीच पडतात. बाजारात मागणी कुठली आहे त्याप्रमाणे पिके घेतली तर मोबदला हि चांगला मिळू शकेल.

भारत हा कृषी प्रधान देश आहे. आजही आपल्या देशाची ७०% जनता शेती व शेती विषयक उद्योगाशी निगडीत आहे. १९६० साला पासून आपला शेतकरी रासायनिक शेती करू लागला. सुरवातीला चांगले हिरवे आणि भरगोस पीक नक्की आले परंतु त्याच्या हव्यासापायी रासायनिक खतांचा वापर बेसुमार होऊ लागला आणि त्याचे दूषपरिणाम दिसू लागले. दुर्दैवाने आजही ते चित्र बदलले नाही. पर्यावरणाचा समतोल बिघडू लागला आहे. यावर उपाय म्हणून आज शेतकऱ्याने जैविक शेतीकडे वळले पाहिजे. जैविक शेती हि आज काळाची गरज आहे. पुरे झाली शेतीची माती आता करा जैविक शेती ही म्हणायची वेळ आली आहे.
